WordPress is a popular Content Management System (CMS) that currently powers over 40% of websites. It has pros and (one) con but is our ‘go-to’ for all our client-editable websites.
The downside to WordPress is that it’s used for its ‘ease of building’. Someone chucks a £60 out-of-the-box WordPress theme on and starts trying to build a website. Cramming content into layouts, it wasn’t designed for can result in a bloated, inconsistent design, terrible usability, and shocking SEO… I could go on.
We’ve been building websites way before WordPress was even created, so although we use WordPress, we use it for its ability to give clients the power to edit their sites once built. We still make a bespoke website (your own WordPress theme) with clean code and the best SEO structure, then use WordPress to give our clients a way to edit what we’ve lovingly designed and coded.
Here are some of the reasons we use WordPress for our websites:
1. Easy to use
WordPress is user-friendly, and you don’t need coding experience to create, edit, or manage your website’s content. We ensure the backend is clean and straightforward. Only required options are available and well-labelled, leaving no guesswork.
2. Customisable
Building your website in the WordPress framework means we can give you a lot of power to change elements of your website. We ensure you have all the tools you need, without being too overwhelming, to get your job done. We can give you options to tailor the design of layouts but within set parameters so things remain consistent and you can’t go ‘off-brand’.
3. SEO friendly
So long as the website is built correctly (which we pride ourselves on here at Eldo), WordPress has some great tools for search engine optimisation (SEO), which means that your website is more likely to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). We set the core SEO up and give users the power to tailor page descriptions and other elements.
4. Functionality
WordPress offers a multitude of ‘plugins’ to expand the functionality of a website. We always avoid plugins when we know they can be efficiently coded. Still, for larger scale functionality such as e-commerce or booking systems, it gives excellent starting platforms for us to develop bespoke solutions. Saving us time and saving you money!
5. Scalable
Finally, WordPress can handle websites of all sizes, from tiny blogs to large e-commerce sites. As your business and user numbers grow, your website can grow with it.
Gone are the days when you need to rely on web developers to make content changes for you, and we fully embrace that. But it needs to be done correctly, giving you the ease of editing so that you can focus on your actual job and not on what colour/font to use! Combining WordPress and our bespoke coding gives you just that – read our testimonials to see how happy clients are with our creations.
